The radical fundamentalists are not reacting with common sense to events. Rather, they have a theory, although there are versions that differ in detail: once the Arabs were a great people, with kingdoms from Spain to the Iraq, and the Muslims went so far as to establish an Empire in India and to conquer the Byzantine Empire. However, the Arabs began to decline in the 15th century, and the Turks and Moguls were overshadowed by Christian Europe by the 17th century. As time went on, things only got worse, as Christian Europe flourished and the Muslim and Arab worlds became even more decadent. Allah allowed such things because of the impiety of the people, and the failure of the Muslim princes to rule according to shari'ah. In essence, He allowed Satan, through the Imperial powers, to oppress the Muslims. Now, however, by imposing shari'ah, recalling the people to piety, and waging jihad against the decadent and materialistic West, Allah will come to the aid of the Muslims, overthrow their oppressors, and give them dominion over the Earth.......
