<The reason I bring this situation up is that I think there are many more people like me who are frustrated at not having the facilities available to sign up for broad band interconnect. All I read are negative articles that "broadband internet is not selling". My comment is: first you have to offer the service to the market that will use it before making those kind of statements>

Yep. And the Baby Bells have stalled around so long and complicated the process beyond reason in order to kill the competition. So a lot of people will still have a long wait. Made even longer by the capital expenditure cuts which are directly affecting broadband buildouts.

The whole problem is the established local phone companies have no reason to offer dsl quickly. First thing you are going to do is cut your second phone line off. Add dsl revenue/lose second phone line revenue. Net result after considering capital expenditure cost is essentially zero growth. And now they can stall all they want cause they (and the market) killed the competition in its infancy.

Imagine when 'broadband' is the minimal standard like 56k is now? No way in hell has the infrastructure been built out enough to support 'broadband' as the norm.

So everything is at a standstill. Can't sophisticate websites much further without widespread broadband, can't market/develop/support a killer broadband requiring application cause you can't reach masses of customers, can't circumvent the local phone monopoly cause the competition is dead, can't, can't, can't............
