Oh come on now. No one will realize you are a yankee unless you sew a flag on your pack. Just don't speak with a damn drawl. Otherwise, the terrorist have already won!

<<<I went to Europe 8 years ago for a month during the summer. Had the time of my life. I was planning on going again next summer, but my father in law who is an airline pilot says he is encountering increasing anti-american hostility when he is abroad. If we attack Iraq i assume it will only become worse. I may have to re-think my plans. >>

I must stress nobody in Europe dislikes Americans (after all back in 19xx they helped twice to clean up the mess).

We just think they get born with horns, that every single one of them is out to put his/her ass on top of the world, that they all live off United Fruit Bananas and Big Macs, that they all (thank God;) drive beamers, and that they are in general fos.

Talking in/about stereotypes...

Seriously; nobody will bother you. As a precaution you may find a book or two by Henry James and/or Henry Miller handy, to be used as an ID when things get dangerously intellectual. Otherwise... Welcome to Europe!

My daughter went off by herself about the beginning of September last year; she claimed to be afraid to come home (having been living in NYC and even working at times near the WTC)--went to Greece and Turkey by herself, stayed on several of the Greek islands. Of course, it was me who was wiring money. The way I put it, she was holding herself hostage in a foreign land. She finally came back after several months. She's at one time or another gone caving in Hungary, hang-gliding in the Alps, and run with the bulls in Pamplona. Now if she could just get a job . . .

Well, I think one of other messages I see in my inbox is from Luc, maybe, saying it looks like a dull day ahead for us grizzlies. The salmon run just thinned out.
