09:03AM VSH Vishay tops consensus by a nickel (19.74) Reports Q1 earnings of $0.03 per share, $0.05 better than the Multex consensus. Revenues fell 22.3% to $434.1 mln vs the $401.1 mln consensus. VSH sees a 3-5% sequential increase in shipments.

7:21AM Genesis Microchip upgraded at Pru (GNSS) 20.27: Prudential upgrades to BUY from Hold due to valuation and the expectation that the co can mitigate pricing pressures with new products and diversification into consumer electronics, which offers higher avg selling prices. Price target is $40.

7:12AM ESS Tech could suffer if DVD market slows down-- WSJ (ESST) 15.75: The Wall Street Journal says that while chip designer ESST is regaining favor with investors by focusing on DVD players, there are early signs that the fast growing market for DVDs is slowing down, which could cut short the co's resurgence. A slowdown in the DVD market could trigger a price war in chips and decimate profits much as the drop in PC sales did, and bears already see signs that the torrid pace of DVD sales is about to cool; also, bears note that ESST relies on a small number of co's for the majority of its sales.

7:01AM Micron Tech bid for Hynix rejected by board (MU) 26.45: Receives notice from the Hynix Semiconductor board of directors that it has decided not to accept the restructuring plan proposed by the Hynix Creditors' Council.
