George, UNIX is just a family name for which there are many members.
Being a standard, developed by diverse institutions, it is no wonder that UNIX is an extremely flexible foundation or springboard for all sorts of variants. To name a few: Sun Solaris, H-P UX, IBM AIX, Linux, and of course CCUR's PowerMaxOS.
Yes, CCUR's is the real deal for RT and for VOD. Many man years of development, testing, and deployment prove it.
However, do not believe that any of these other large commercial UNIX's could not be used or changed (with time, money, and good engineering staff) to do some of the things that CCUR has done to their OS. As for performance, I can tell you I manage Sybase databases in a Sun Solaris environment for a large Wall Street firm, and many requests can be serviced in 10milliseconds.

regards,
