Good points. I actually posted a comparison of NOK's to QCOM's net margins a week or so ago, and NOK is clearly getting squeezed since their operating margin has steadily declined in this downturn, whereas QCOM's has actually inched up. Same for net profit margins if you look past QCOM's "one time items":

I hope you're right about there being a major upturn in subs and handset volumes. That's what I sniff, but there's little hard evidence yet.
