-- TSN: === Majoli, Kournikova win openers in Bol === --

ANNA where are you

Bol, Croatia (Sports Network) - Croatia's own Iva Majoli was an opening-round
winner Tuesday at the clay-court Croatian Bol Ladies Open. Russian sensation
Anna Kournikova also notched a rare win to move on.

The fourth-seeded former French Open champion Majoli outlasted Slovakian
Ludmila Cervanova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, to advance.

Majoli, the 1997 Roland Garros titlist, is fresh off her big Charleston clay-
court championship two weeks ago, her first title of any kind since the French
Open run five years ago..

Two other seeds recorded wins on Day 2, as No. 6 Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia
stopped Slovenian Maja Matevzic, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, and No. 7 Tina Pisnik of
Slovenia stopped Czech Zuzana Hejdova, 6-2, 7-5.

Kournikova, who is currently embroiled in a topless photographs controversy
with Penthouse magazine, dropped the first set before rebounding for a 6-7
(3-7), 6-2, 6-2 decision against Ukrainian Julia Vakulenko.

The 20-year-old Kournikova halted a personal five-match losing streak with
Tuesday's victory. She has struggled mightily since suffering a stress
fracture in her foot in February of last year.

Penthouse claims that its current issue features topless photos of Kournikova,
who contends the pictures are fake and intends to sue the publication.

Kournikova's agent David Schwab said the pictures, which are part of a 10-page
spread, were not of his immensely-popular client, who is one of the world's
most-photographed and recognizable celebrities.

The struggling Kournikova, of course, has yet to capture a singles title on
the WTA Tour.

Indonesian Angelique Widjaja, Russian Vera Zvonareva, Croatian Jelena Kostanic
and Czech Libuse Prusova also notched first-round wins in Bol on Tuesday.

The winner of this $170,000 event will take home $27,000. The top seeds are
Russian Elena Dementieva, Luxembourg's Anne Kremer and Bulgarian Magdalena
Maleeva.

The top-seeded Dementieva will face Widjaja on Wednesday.
