Hi Crossy,
Your comments make me think of situations where the incumbents have a monopoly and have been used to being/staying incredibly fat by gouging their customers.

Like the end of some railroad lines in the late 1800s, before the auto made travel easier, your options were to pay for a ride on the train or ride a horse(+wagon) to get around, which might take 10 times as long as it would just to ride the train.

For the RBOCs, the writing has been on the wall for some time now, the problem is that they can't break from their "gouging" mentality. They don't seem to recognize that they can continue to leverage their monopolies during the broadband buildout-- IF they get off their ass. The longer they wait, the more likely there will be a new competitor who will beat them to the punch with a better product. The clock is ticking and there's little time to waste, imo.

Ethernet aggregation routers/switches are becoming prevalent in the market place and the price/performance statistics are improving every couple of quarters (or so). The tidal wave is building and those who aren't ready will get lost in the ensuing flood.
