I do my trading with MER (flat rate commission structure was very attractive to me) and I talk with my broker every now and again about what type of activity he is seeing. I am pretty much his only client who shorts stocks and pretty much the only one who uses options to hedge long positions. He said that most of his clients are following MER's LTBH strategy. I am trying to figure out what the value add is that the broker brings to the table. As you point out, a sound selling strategy is the missing piece. It is also, perhaps, the most important piece.
