slack - I am not counting on any potential increased sales due to the launch of 1x in the US....they might occur, but I dont think they should be in anybody's forecasts

1. PCS lights up

2. Video and game services

3. GPS/Internet services

4. Mobile Intenet and usable e-mail.

5. Video voice telphony

6. The US is by far the market that needs all these facilities more than any other market on earth

7. As of today there are two 1X enabled handsets in the stores that serve one carrier with patchy service areas. As of 15 Jul there will be a dozen or so handsets, PDAs and modems 1X enables servicing two carriers one of whihc covers most of the US.

Are you sure we should expect some benefit from 1X in 2H 02 and even the June qtr?

Best,

L

Arent you supposed to be on our side now? ;-)

it is no accident that i did a buy-write so that my net purchase price is 18.10. also my position is quite small. i certainly would not buy QCOM unhedged at these levels except for a trade and i am not into trading the countertrend (i.e., going long for a trade on a stock in a bearish trend).

the high teens is still where i start to see value for QCOM, and believe it or not i think there's a good chance i will be stuck with the stock come next January (i.e., i don't think i will be called out at 20). you may wonder why, if the PE would then be 20 or so. but i don't take their pro forma numbers very seriously. after all, they certainly have not built up much book value in excess of paid-in capital over the years. for such a company, i am not willing to pay much money.

however, since i follow the QCOM story somewhat, and since options are available that conveniently let me set an effective purchase price far below the current market price, i do not mind sticking my toe in the water.

also, even if i am sort of on the bulls' "side" now with a little skin in the game, i will only become that much more vigilant regarding valuation. after all, it is just a game unless you have something on the line.

still, while i do believe QCOM is currently overvalued, it is at least worth something, whereas my belief is that many large cap tech stocks are worth close to zero.
