OT/Paul. Yes, he was an ornery hero in many ways. OTOH, who's to say simply shutting out the crowd isn't a viable way to deal with the pressure that their wild manic/depressive mood swings can impose Billy Crystal's excellent movie "61" was a great example of what that constant public attention did to a guy like Roger Maris who didn't have the strength of will, and yes combative nature Williams had to wall himself off from much of the tumult that follows those most gifted and celebrated in their fields.
