Hi Jerome,
What is happening now actually becomes the precursor of peace. The Israelis reacted to suicide bombings with overwhelming force. The war has been won. The Palestinian leaders and i suspect many Palestinian people know that their leadership has brought them to near ruin(again). Remeber arafat supported sadam in 91. This time he probably expected an oil embargo in support. It is clear that the MAS will not back him other than with rhetoric. The Saudis are insisting on a peace deal that includes full recognition. There is no chance that the israelis will be driven out of all palestine as they were in Lebanon. If Arafat or others are good negotiatory they should go back to Camp David and/or tava template for peace. US and GB will be the peacekeepers after a fashion. The potential suicide bombers will quickly disappear if the PA renounces terror and controls what is left of Hamas/Islamic jihad et al with israeli/USGB help.
You were wrong. What Israel did in fact paves the way for peace. They had to prove to the palestinians that they would indeed act. Maybe well intentioned folks like you do more harm than good by giving the palestinians the false hope that they could regain all the land including israel. Remember those pro pal peaceniks who visited arafat that first week in confinement. Well forget them--they wield no power and just deluded the palestinians that europe would somehow rescue them from their latest self-dug hole. mike
