Hetero- is the greek prefix antonym of homo- ... yes? ... so if synonym is the antonym of antonym, and hypernym is the antonym of hyponym, and meronym the antonym of holonym, then heteronym should be the antonym of homonym

... and here i was worried, when edit time was up, of an accusation of homonymphobia -g-

dnt.v - what do you think of the newfie camp around Botwood Basin, tyke
[edit] - that really was a great call on ngx, thanks

>>Therefore I think "homonym" is the word Frank was looking for. The oed doesn't list "heteronyms". (It was an interesting question and response that sent me searching for confirmation). <<

According to Merriam-Webster's New English Dictionary heteronyms are spelled the same but are different in pronunciation and meaning.

And, believe it or not, there's also something called a 'homograph' for words that are spelled the same, have different meanings, but may or may not have a different pronunciation.
