combjelly Re...While you have a point, as an engineer, I prefer management who has some idea of what is going on in the trenches. If I haven't seen situations where Jerry has shown a good feel for the industry, like when he oever-ruled Atiq, I'd say that tcmay has a point<<<<<<

It is Jerry's job to get the basics from his VP's. Dirk, Hector, Herb, etc. Surely you don't think that Jerry also needs to get an intimate knowledge of Dirk's job. Why? Dirk knows more about technical questions, is more believeable, and leaves Jerry free to make the decisions he alone can make. Besides, Tony is talking about the CC. There, letting the best man to the explaining is important.

Managers who only know management is the biggest fear of an engineer. Been there, done that, been on unemployment as a direct result.<<<<<<<

Poor managers don't consult with the employees under their command; good managers do. Jerry has been very adept at letting Dirk do his job, not taking credit, and managing the business side. What more can you ask for. When AMD can out innovate and patent Intel 3 yrs running, he has to be doing something right.
