David Bowers, chief global investment strategist at Merrill Lynch, said interest in international equity markets is growing among U.S. investors, contributing to the recent weakness in the U.S. dollar and to the relative underperformance of U.S. equities. Bowers feels this is a reflection of a negative outlook for U.S. stocks rather than a positive outlook for the rest of the world. He recommends keeping a close eye on the financials sector, which tends to be hurt by a weak dollar.
