Dollar Mostly Higher; Gold Lower

U.S. Dollar Rises Against Most Major Currencies in European Trading; Gold Prices Fall
LONDON (AP) -- The U.S. dollar rose Thursday against most major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell.

The euro was quoted at 90.27 cents, down from 90.46 cents late Wednesday.

Other dollar rates compared with late Wednesday included 127.98 Japanese yen, up from 127.63; 1.6088 Swiss francs, up from 1.6077, and 1.5608 Canadian dollars, down from 1.5625.

The British pound was quoted at $1.4635, up from $1.4606.

At midday in New York, the dollar was quoted at 128.04 Japanese yen, while the British pound traded at $1.4646 and the euro was worth 90.33 cents.

Gold closed in London at $307.30 bid per troy ounce, down from $309.90 on Wednesday. In Zurich, the bid was $306.75, down from $310.15. Gold fell $2 in Hong Kong to close at $307.95.

Silver closed in London at $4.53 bid per troy ounce, down from $4.54.
