It's true that the bear market has lasted longer than most people anticipated. And all those rationales that you listed have been used incorrectly to justify a recovery.

But, I think some of the bear predictions on this thread of NAZ 900 and a 7 year bear market are just as rediculous. Unless we go into a major depression. It's almost impossible that the NAZ is going below 1400 (where it went the week after 9/11). We just suffered a major terrorist attack and a looming recession when the NAZ went below 1400.

Perhaps we're experiencing a blowout bottom right now. The news has gone from bad to worse and is depressing the market. Also, all these accounting shenanigans are killing us. But, the fact remains that companies will still need to eventually replace their IT equipement and computers. The 3 1/2 computer replacement cycle is nearing. Demand in IT will eventually recover. If not this year, then perhaps the 2003 or 2004.
