RE: "... it's different this time."

I have been saying this for about 16 months, now!

I expect a very long cycle with a much slower than normal move up. I have acted on this expectation and the high current valuations by adding covered calls to all my purchases. I am betting that prices will not run away until next year and that recent highs will hold for most of the year.

Gottfried and threaders, We must remember that the institutions got into AMAT early this time and probably have been loading up when AMAT was down. The small investor may get in early run the price and then the instituiions exit. Remember those sharp drops.

I would like to see the thread discuss Moore's law in relation to the current .10 micron chip and the 300 wafer. How much smaller can we go with the semiconductors and how large will the be, 16 inches. What impact wil this have on AMAT? Will biogenetics come into play in that we can program cells? I am concerned whether we will run out of the ability to go to much smaller. You electrical/computer/ and biogenetic engineers would have a better idea than most on this site. Thoughts anyone?

Paul

Gottfried, Look what happened when orders crossed shipments. It appears that both went up for several months along with price. I need to update my standard deviation price data with the orders and shipment data. However, my major concern is where can AMAt go from here. Is there a dead end with Moore's law with the chip? I would sure like to know what they have on the drawing board.
