You can only "pocket some change" when you cover your short put for less than you sold it for. Rolling out is more akin to digging a deeper hole IMHO -- you pay the spread, the commission and get yourself on a bigger hook for few more months.

Elmer,

I am surprised you like Oracle. I view them SUNW of software. Although both Sun and Oracle can change their business model, but the model "as is" is doomed, IMO.
