A man who speaks his mind. Nothing wrong with that.

Rather depends what's on his mind, yes? Several of Hersch's comments were imo, not sensible at all, such as the crop duster comments, or his irrational fear of Ashcroft. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you have to like Ashcroft. You can call him a prig and worry that he's a fanatic, and that his actions post 9/11 have gone beyond all necessity. But "demented" does not strike me as a sensible or balanced comment. Nor does comparing Rumsfield to Woody Allen really aid the discussion. As for Hersch's accusation that the US is not done fighting in Afghanistan, that is no more than Rumsfield himself has said, many times.

One can certainly speak his mind in America. And there is definitely a difference between "fact" and "opinion"....He seems to have many "opinions" and very little "fact."
