Captain Jack,

I was just on a financial radio talk show. I brought up GE. As we all know, GE, like most stocks, had a great run from 1997-2000. We enjoyed a 3:1 split and steady earnings. However, its stock price has practically given back all its gains. Jack is out; Jeff is in. I asked the folks on the talk show where they see the stock heading. They predicted that GE will be split up in 2-5 years. I was a little surprised to hear that. The rationale they use is that GE has gotten too big. They made most of their earnings, etc. through acquisitions during the 1990s. Jack was the master at this. The HoneyWell fiasco was a first sign that this trend will not be able to continue. GE is simply too big.

What do you think?
