TSMC's Chang sees global semiconductor industry up 5-12 pct in 2002
-- AFX - Asia, 5/3/2002

e-insite.net

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd chairman
Morris Chang forecast 5-12 pct growth in the global semiconductor industry this
year and a further 20 pct next year, the Commercial Times reported.

The growth momentum will come from inventory adjustments, although such
adjustments have yet to be completed by certain segments such as communications
products, he was quoted as saying.

Separately, Chang, who is chairman of both TSMC and Vanguard International,
was quoted by the same paper as saying TSMC will not merge with Vanguard
International Semiconductor Corp.
