Revenue streams from stuff like this:

>>GREENSBORO, N.C., May 7, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD chart, msgs), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, announced today it has begun production shipments of the RF2173 and RF2174 power amplifiers (PAs) for use in two additional handsets manufactured by a top-tier multinational handset OEM.

The recently introduced dual-band GSM handsets (GSM 900/GSM 1800) feature WAP 1.1, internet email, an internal antenna, hands free speaker, SMS with sound and pictures, as well as the ability to record personalized ringer tones. Both handsets are currently available.

Jerry Neal, executive vice president of marketing and strategic development, said, "These shipments are in addition to previously announced production shipments into major handset platforms for this customer. Throughout the year, we expect this customer will remain among our top ten and will contribute increasingly to our ability to grow power amplifier market share as new handsets are introduced and production shipments begin to ramp."

GSM is the world's leading air interface standard, with approximately 650 million subscribers. RF Micro Devices has historically been a major supplier to the GSM market and expects to increase its dollar content in GSM handsets in fiscal 2003 as existing programs ramp and new production shipments are announced.

The RFMD(R) power amplifiers are GaAs HBT microwave monolithic integrated circuits (MMICs) that provide high efficiency in small, thermally enhanced, cost-effective packages.<<

Even if business spending remains slow, consumer spending has held up. I confess to being surprised by that, and I would not be surprised to see handset sales hitting the low end of the range if the lay off situation gets much worse. But it appears RFMD is taking share, and thus surviving.

It looks like both my hedges will expire worthless. I think I will hedge half the position on a bounce after expiration with calls expiring in the fall.

Cheers, Tuck
