Most JVMs interpret the bytecode.

Microsoft's .NET languages all use a JIT compiler to compile their bytecode. I have also heard (though completely unofficially) that people at Microsoft have concerns about the efficient operation of their JIT system on IA64. Again, nothing official, and I suspect nothing that they won't figure out a way around.
