I think La Pierre pops off too much, and that was one of his worst. He should issue a retraction.....

If by "take the party line" you mean that I will be against gun control then you are right but the issue in this post in not gun control but rather Wayne LaPierre's comment about Andrew McKelvey. While I do think the group Americans for Gun Safety does seek to limit our freedom and I share LaPierre's opposition to them, I agree with the author that the comment was wrong. The extent that Americans for Gun Safety would damage our freedom is a lot less then the damage a Taliban like dictatorship would do, and the methods Americans for Gun Safety use are democratic not based on repression like the Taliban or terrorism like Al-Qaida.

Wayne LaPierre's comments aren't exactly like (and in my opinion are not quite as bad as) Cynthia McKinney's but they are wrong. They are very much like those who call people who disagree with them Nazis. In this case bin Laden replaces Hitler but the whole type of argument is the same and it isn't one based on rational thought.
