DAK, I saw on the history channel that in 1866 the cost of a telegram from the US to Europe was $1.25 per word! If we applied hedonics to that period imagine the growth stories that could be told. I would guess you could buy some land for a buck. I have been told that in the late 50s early 60s you could buy land in Maine for $10/ acre . A long deceased family friend bought a nice 60 acre farm with 9 room house a few barns in Vermont for $3,000 around 1960. He saved a few thousand dollars of silver coins from circulation and sold them at a nice profit. mike
