Nope, nobody screamed. That's what I found so amazing. I spent my time clutching the arms of my seat and looking around. What I remember most was the way everyone was either staring straight ahead or looking back at me (in their looks around the cabin) with a look of absolute terror. I have to imagine my face was in the same shape, but I can't honestly remember that. No...it was the silence that surprised me. I heard a murmur, but more like the hushed tones of someone turning to the person next to them and saying goodbye or asking what's going on?

The point is that you talked about the guy falling from the 67th floor and thinking it wasn't so bad as he fell. I can tell you that this was the farthest thing from my mind, and I have to assume the others. It was pretty damn bad.

As for inevitability in the market...I don't believe that anything that is indeterminate is inevitable. Just as my air pocket made crashing SEEM inevitable, it clearly wasn't. There are always things that can be done. The question is what are they, and are they being done?

Surely, if you think things are so bad, there must be ways to improve the situation. What would you think they are? Sometimes it's just taking some nasty medicine....but I don't think raising interest rates (very nasty medicine) is the answer. Sometimes it's limiting speculation (not a bad idea to tighten margin rules).
I can't believe someone as intelligent as you feels certain things are inevitable.
