There has got to be a rally in response to such gully washing... It just is a matter of when.

Actually I would disagree. Lucent's channel is going up. Today we tested the bottom of the channel at 4.25. We are about 20% off our lows. The rest of the telecoms (CIEN, JDSU, WCOM, NT are at new lows while LU is still on its up channel and you can do a chart comparison on LU, NDX, JDSU, JNPR, CIEN, WCOM, NT etc.. for the last 3 weeks and you will see what I mean) are getting hammered but that will change very soon (my guess is next week). And once it does LU will lead the way upwards (I think we'll see $5s next week IMO).

With $5.5 billion in cash (including the $0.616 billion tax refund this quarter), no short term debt and $15 billion in sales, LU without the Agere distribution is trading at book value, less than 0.7x sales and almost 2x cash. Don't know any better stocks out there with as good fundamentals going forward as all the bankruptcies out there (CLECs, WCOM etc..) will benefit big time the big carriers like Verizon, SBC, BellSouth etc..., who are all Lucent's main customers.

I'm more bullish on Lucent now than any time during the last 3 years. Onwards and upwards.

JMHO.

Boring! Low volume. I think one could just put this stock on the back burner and come back in about a year. Maybe it might be at $7 then. My concern is that I'm only about 3 years from being 70 1/2 when I've got to start taking out of my 401K and IRA. Will the market have recovered a bit by then? I've watched all my stuff sink for the last two years and I think that whenever we reach the so called bottom that it will take twice as long to get back to about half way.

This market is probably going to move sideways for several years. Maybe as much as seven or eight years, and if this crap in the middle east continues for much longer then even that prognosis might be too optimistic.

I think this market is trying like heck to get down to those 9/11 lows once more.
