>>Although the U.S.$ is going up,<<

I'm not sure it's going up. I know it has gone up. I am heavily hedged against a decline of the dollar relative to other currencies, a decline that would be bound to occur very quickly if there were any kind of world-wide monetary discipline. A declining dollar would make gold hedges established using dollar-denominated bonds somewhat less profitable that the hedges have been during the recent years of rising dollar and low inflation.

No, I am not buying Euro contracts. I did speculate in the Merrill Euro Warrants, and broke even, which was a poor enough result to cure me of any form of currency speculation other than holding bonds denominated in currencies other than the $US. (I have about 25% of our family net worth in:
BEGBX, which is Euro-denominated;
FAX, which is mainly Australian dollar; and
FCO, which is mainly Canadian dollar and British pound.

This is much more than the current value of my calls on NEM, some of which are up nearly 200%.)
