how would you determine the charge at the time of the grant a black scholes type calculation. The same way options players assess price/risk. Of course, your suggestion: seems like it would be easy enough to determine the expense to be charged to the books at the time of exercise would be more accurate. Unfortunately, Uncle Sam is a pay as you play bookie and doesn't like the latter arrangement.
