RE:"In a nutshell, yes. This time last year Elmer was talking about how Intel had bought the only company that was ready to build .13 machines."

I vaguely remember that but haven't seen it mentioned lately in regard to AMDs being late to the party on .13u.

RE:"You may well have been too far off in BeeLand to remember that. You certainly did *BUZZ* off sometime around September '00."

Not sure what you mean.

RE:"If I was running the *BIZ* I'd want to ship the *CHIP* for the most I could get out of it.
AMD's gone from essentially 0% of the notebook and related market one year ago to around 30% today."

yes, typically new process chips get sold into the notebook market first. So I'll punt on that one and wait.
As for 30% of the notebook market.
So might refute that...and claim Intel still owns the corporate notebookmarket. I will not argue that AMD has come a long way since lows of the K6-2 notebook days.

RE:"How many notebook chips would you like AMD to brand up 500MHz(rating) to sell as desktop chips?"

Good point but the first samples of T-breds indicate they don't overclock that well so maybe it's not a matter of choice that they are marked at notebook speeds. We will know more in a couple months.

THGRTPRTNDR,

Re; "Intel had bought the only company that was ready to build .13 machines."

You've got to be kidding, right ??!! ... Do you really think INTC bought
the ONLY company that was ready to build .13um machines ??!!
Did INTC buy AMAT ?? Did INTC buy ASML ?? Did INTC buy Novellus, TEL, DNS ??
You really need to "study" more.

Make It So,
Yousef

tgptndr, re: "AMD's gone from essentially 0% of the notebook and related market one year ago to around 30% today."

AMD was about 40% of the retail notebook at the end of last year. Overall notebook market numbers have not been as widespread. However, IIRC Intel noted their mobile CPU shipments for last quarter and with AMD's reported "10% of shipments" some general estimates of AMD's notebook share were posted by others here. I looked quickly but could not find the info on Intel mobile CPUs.

EDIT: AMD's share of the mobile CPU market was closer to 10% than 30%.

I do agree with your general point, however, that AMD has made solid progress in returning to the notebook market. TBred's slow uptake makes me wonder if they may have stalled in further expansion.
