tgptndr, re: mobile market numbers

From Intel CC:

<Paul> Your right, we are very excited about mobile. It has grown enough to be a
business that we can produce standalone dedicated products for it, which is the
Banias product line that we will be talking about at the analyst meeting next week.
So, going forward, I think this is a very strong market and we are well positioned for
it. In terms of size, we have never given out numbers, but I would not argue strongly
with IDC/Dataquest numbers which put it in the 17 - 20% range of all PCs.

About 55% down the transcript page: jc-news.com

So given AMD = 20% overall share @ 8M
Then Intel is 4 x 8 = 32M
17-20% of 32M is 5.4-6.4M so total mobile market of 6.2-7.2M

0.8M (AMD mobile = 10% of shipments) / 6.2-7.2 = 11 to 13%

I believe these are the best numbers I have seen. Other values for the CPU market in general and mobiles in particular seem to have a wide range of values so I place the most faith in Intel's guidance and AMD's reported values. There may have been a different reference from Intel used for the prior posts here or perhaps RB on this subject.
