P4 is doing exactly what Intel said it would (and few believed). Scaling remarkably well. Plus I don't think I can remember Intel ever being this far ahead of the world in process technology. It ain't talk, the products speak for themselves and AMD's empty .13u shipping docks speak volumes as well.
As has been said before, all those R&D dollars are paying off. Just too bad it's in such a down market :-(

It's pretty clear that intel has had much better success developing the P860 (0.13u) Northwood Process, than they had with P858 (0.18u) and CuMine. This most likely is also making the Process Improvements easier than they expected.

Obviously, there are a few more shrinks and/or Process improvements that can be made in a relatively short timeframe, otherwise intel wouldn't be saying 3.0GHz is possible in 2002. Whether they can make a 3.0GHz by years end.... is probably dependent on the results of PE experiments that are no doubt going on right now.

Things look pretty good to me.... 0.18u Willamette Celerons keeping the squeeze on "you know who", Mobile Tualatins and Northwoods selling as fast as can be made, P4 Scaling to who knows where, and McKinley paving the way until Madison ramps.... And don't forget, 0.13u cost reduction efforts probably haven't even started.......

Fear Not Elmer...... What goes down.... will come up. And unlike those ole days of CuMine.... This time, intel is ready.....
