Hmm, I believe Nader cost Gore the election (but I also think Gore did a wonderful job of losing the election all by himself and, if you read Jeffrey Toobin's book on Florida, it's very clear he lost the Florida recount all by himself as well with his terrible strategy) but I don't think those are the relevant data. You need state by state data since, as we all know, it's the electoral college that matters. I wonder if there is a poll of Tennessee voters or of Arkansas voters or of West Virginia voters that address this question.

New Jersey voters don't matter on this issue because Gore carried the state by such a huge margin. Sensible voters aren't we. ;-)

As for questioning Greenberg's conclusions because he had only 1,000 as opposed to 13,000 in the other poll, I wouldn't do that. Stan is among the very, very best at this sort of thing. It's easy, as I'm certain you know, to design a poll of 1,000 respondents which is far more accurate than 13,000. Don't know who the Voter News Service is.

Thank God for the Nader voters! The Ross Perot of the left.

Perot gave us Clinton as much as Nader gave us Bush.

The difference was that Nader knew the effect that his candidacy could have on the election but was too enthralled by his own image to permit his view of the "lesser evil" to win.

A big hug and a heartfelt thanks to all Nader voters, especially to those in Florida. You were invaluable.

By the way, I'm not a huge fan of W, but I do feel that he's the right man with the right team for the historical moment we're in. No telling how Gore would have responded to 9/11 and its aftermath. Being a part of the Clinton administration would have made things difficult politically for him at a time when unity was necessary.
