Broadcasting is a highly regulated business. There is no end to the favors they could hope to get from Congress.

I read that the most successful show in TV is the Simpsons. Been on for over 10 years and has earned Fox a billion bucks. So what's that about $100,000,000 per year?

Even if this talk show is as successful as the Simpsons, they're going to pay the talent HALF THE PROFITS?? I don't think that's the way the business runs - normally.

Letterman's been on TV for 30 years and he "only" earns $30 mil a year. Leno makes even less for a more successful show. There is no way to justify $50 million on purely econimic terms.
