BMW: It is odd because all the news is good. Economy on the rebound,mid-east looking somewhat more stable, US winning terrorism war,INTC and MSFT on a virtuous product cycle and the Y2K 400-700 mhz cpus have been written off in the business area a long time ago. On the other hand maybe the "new investors" having gone through their first downturn (protracted) are taking a show me the earnings attitude and so the market will lag rather than lead or we are headed for a double dip recession. I can't see the latter but that is what the market is trying to say if it is the usual leader. I myself in 40 years of investing have not seen anything quite like this although maybe I wasn't pay close enough attention in the '70's. In the 80's we went through tremendous inflation and high interest rates 14% non callable gov't paper and yet we got out of that with a lot less capital lost than we are looking at today. These are the worst of times. JFD
