First Call identifies the "growth rate" as Next 5 years - median 22.5 percent From that I take it the "base year" is this year and the growth rate is estimated for the next 5 years. As far as I know, the number is arrived at by taking the estimates of the individual brokers that care to make an estimate, and computing the arithmetic median. Usually, the number of brokers providing this estimate is less than the number providing earnings estimates. For example, in the case of AMAT, the current mean of the earnings estimates comes from 28 brokers while the growth estimate comes from 19 brokers. Don
