I think that the weakness into the end of the year was partially a reflection of the adoption of the actual currency around the first of the year, I wrote at the time that that might "cost" them a small penalty in their GDP growth because of the relatively sudden dislocation, now we are just going back to between $.9 to parity, which is the situation after the "shock" was absorbed. HR - The EU economies except that of Gt Britain are ex growth and headed inexorably on a path of increasing unemployment and decline. The major econommies of Europe have lost their raison d'etre. To earn a lving in the World today you need one or more of the following:- World class low manufacturing costs World class innovaitve and growing technology in the corporate sector A dynamic, self-restorative, restriction free corprate and labor environment. A military industrial complex that carries out the kind of research that the private sector cannot undertake A relative freedom of immigration that encourages highly the skilled from all over the World to come, join in and be welcome and prosper One language and freedom of movement and communication ie no long distance calling charges So far as I know there is no country in Europe except Gt Britain that has any one of the above never mind all of them. Only one other big country in the World has any change of ever having the above in our lifetime and that is China. Best, L
