Anglo pals are legacy of Vietnam War era. They discovered Asia through taking time off in Thailand. Of course there had been a generation before them. The ones that were here for the WWI and the Korean wars. There have two different types: The Euro warriors and the Asia warriors. The Euro warriors didn't want to leave the castles they used as HQ during WWII neither the goodies. So they concocted the Iron Curtain and stayed on. Very much aligned with what the military of the USSR wanted too. There was not much a chance for the Asia warriors after Japan's capitulation. Korean war came in very handy. But it didn't end with it. Someone concocted the Yellow Peril and they stayed on in Clark in Philippines, Demilitarised Zone in Korea and Okinawa in Japan. Berlin Wall fell. Yellow peril is only to the industry of the west -or what still remain of it. There must be a peril somewhere else to keep the military gorging in "defence" spending. If there is not peril, the military have to concoct one. Saddam Hussein comes in very handy at the moment. It will take a while until we read the news that the aircraft carrier Forestall will be junked and the satellites stop being put in orbit. As long as there are dollars to pay for that...
