Jay, since I don't believe in free will and the quantum bubbling inherent randomness stuff, I'm more of the mind that everything is inevitable. Which immediately leads to that Goedelian stuff about systems being unable to define themselves or whatever it is and an error in my logic loop. Oh well, too bad...

Nevertheless, being defeatist in the face of the apparent lack of freedom is not an option because that leads to other living things going on to play the game and find a way to make a cat laugh at the situation we find ourselves in.

Therefore, we run our programmes, blown by the vicissitudes of our lives and driven by our ancient limbic systems and hormones with our minds bubbling on top with little self-determination.

Try becoming homosexual for a day if you think you have free will. Ogle some guys. Try eating dung beetle delights or living in a mole tunnel and enjoy it if you think you have free will. We don't really choose much. Just some superficial things. We can't really get in the swing of 'free willing' ourselves into another state of mind. We just is.

So, although it's inevitable, we have no choice but to do our best to pass the crown jewels on to the next generation, or perhaps short-circuit the whole effort, do some neural net quantum computer modelling and see where it's going to end up, which is a bit beyond our ken at the moment. Meanwhile we can at least dabble with our DNA and cut a few corners with genetic engineering.

Okay, you go swimming, I'm going walking.
