fascinating chart, but all trends do have reversal points, and this could well be it.
Max p.s. i can also perceive a rational for this reversal of that trend coming now, you will see since the 50plus level it has been a freefall. If indeed the 50plus was the maximum stretch point it follows the recoil will send the 1950 through 2001 uptrend channel into history's back pages.

what you see when you look at this chart

I can mentally fill in S&P price over last 5 years but very fuzzy on the time frame that comprises the other 90% of data on your chart.
Where does S&P Price chart look like superimposed over your S&P earnings chart. Oversold or overbought.

I think you may have to plot S&P price on log chart to account for the bubble over last 5 years. <g>
