I also read somewhere that silver may become an important ingredient in a new less or even non toxic form of bottom coating for boats in the marine industry. As present day bottom coatings are seriously toxic environmental hazards and at present under scrutiny by govt's all over the place a new silver based form of boat protection will be a welcome new product for the future.

Here are the exact numbers for silver.

In 1966, silver averaged $1.23 (Numbers from Kitco historical data section).

Cumulative inflation Jan. 1 1967- Dec. 31 2001, 427% (Numbers taken from web off some site I can't remember).

So, current silver price in 1966 dollars is 4.59/(1+4.27)=87 cents, about 1/3 lower than 1966.

I consider the inflation adjusted Dow 1870 close in 2001 to be Wall Street's OTHER dirty secret.
