I think those are rather trivial, and somewhat sweet. Yes, it is of profound importance to acknowledge Israel's right to exist, and not abandon a state which has, from its inception, depended upon the patronage of the United States. This would be virtually the same as inviting a new Holocaust......The second I think was a (somewhat weak) flippancy. I cannot blame someone in Bush's position for getting a little sick of the locutions that are state of the art in diplomacy......The third is rather sweet. Bush is, I think, saying that he, a Christian, can empathize with the meaning of Hanukkah, but a fanatic cannot see outside of his tradition to appreciate the traditions of others. This may seem laughably trite, but I think it was motivated by Bush being moved to participate in the lighting of the Menorah........
