Mobile GPS for Business; Providing Navigation Service

May 2, 2002 (TOKYO) -- "The mobile phone will be a part of Sales Force Automation (SFA)," said Keisuke Onishi, president of Navitime Japan Co., Ltd.

By combining and "NAVITIME" of Navitime Japan with "GPS Keitai (cell phone with the GPS)" of KDDI Corp., users can make their business more efficient. GPS stands for the global positioning system. NAVITIME is the company's navigating application service provider (ASP) that started last March. Navitime Japan is a venture business that develops and sells navigation software and mapping software.

NAVITIME on the GPS Keitai provides users with an optimized route on foot or by train to the destination on the map displayed. There is a function to search an optimized route passing a few places on request. This service is best suited for visiting business persons and home helpers. It is possible to find the optimized route passing a few given places at given arrival times at these places.

It is said that only NAVITIME can search the route on foot and by train in combination on the mobile phone. President Onishi said, "In addition to ASP, Navitime sells licenses of navigating software and mapping software. We will not provide those services for free like a transfer navigation service on the Internet."

The service charge for NAVITIME is 210 yen per month. (A part of the service is free.) The fee of telephone call is requested in addition. Japan Tourist Association has already employed NAVITIME to make a sightseeing simulation at its Web site (in Japanese). (128.22 yen = US$1)
