8:50AM: Q1 Productivity surged 8.6% (consensus +7.0%) while unit labor costs fell at a 5.4% rate versus a 3.1% decline in Q4... Initial response to the better than expected data has been positive as the strong productivity growth is a win/win situation with stronger productivity allowing increased wages and lower unit labor costs helping to improve profits... Presently, the S&P futures, +5.60, are 4.60 points above fair value while the Nasdaq 100 PMI is up 7.53 points...
Aside from the data, market also drawing support from a Morgan Stanley upgrade of Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Salomon Smith Barney's contention that now is an opportune period to accumulate positions selectively in key large-cap biotech stocks due to attractive forward PEG ratios.
