SoundView upbeat on tech sector By Tomi Kilgore

SoundView Technology Group feels that psychology and valuations for the technology sector have become so depressed that the risk of not being involved in sector now outweighs the risk of exposure. "We believe that there is few near-term catalysts that are likely to make technology investors more bearish than they already are," Analyst Arnie Berman said in a research note to clients.

Among individual stocks, he feels Micron Technology (MU: news, chart, profile) "in now down so far" that it is likely to outperform Intel (INTC: news, chart, profile), possibly for the next year.

Berman feels that Hewlett-Packard's stock (HPQ: news, chart, profile), which now reflects the merged business of Compaq Computer (CPQ: news, chart, profile), is "dirt-cheap." He recommended investors "put a clothespin on their nose and buy the stock."

Lynn,

I'm wondering what other pleasant developments were waiting in the background to be released only when the merger went through.

HP has been making these types of product announcements on a continual basis. The most "out there" ones lately have been a DLP projector and a home audio/video stereo component.

These announcements have nothing to do with the merger.

Dave

Without the distraction of Wally...we are getting a vote of confidence by the street.

Thanks for starting the thread.....You beat me by a bit. My ex says I'm not only slow but also stupid. Looking at my portfolio I'm inclined to believe her.
