The Administration has influence, but unless we intend to enforce our will everywhere with the barrell of a gun, we have to take into account politics and the make- up of the other players in various situations. You can say that we can threaten Israel with lack of support, but it would be tantamount to genocide to suddenly pull out at this point. Either the Israelis, in desperation, would finally drive out the Palestinians in a bloodbath, or the Palestinians, in tandem with a few Arab states, would finally seek to push the Jews into the sea. So, our leverage is limited, and we must sometimes allow events to play out.......
