Clearly its no one's job, because he wouldn't hear of medical intervention. Anyway, I have no objection whatever to his living his mania and enjoying it to the fullest! I just acknowledge the pain it has to be causing his family. And I am familiar with the phenomenon of the romanticization of mental illness, though I see you weren't doing that, but were only urging politeness. Still, imo it's not realistic to think that the mania phase, if he's phasic, of his illness, is not going to be funny to others. Mania often produces very funny moments, albeit not, of course, funny to the families of the happily manic. And I don't think you should worry about it his feelings being hurt. Frederick is very, very happy right now. That's why he won't take his meds. If he comes on and says his feelings are being hurt, I would agree with your scruples.
