Sharon is already on the far right. But Israel, much like many regions of Europe, is moving to the extreme right. All the more reason to be concerned about the future of peace in the Middle East.

Sharon's vulnerability within Likud is a separate issue. Israel cannot negotiate with Arafat because he can't be trusted. Palestine can't negotiate with Sharon because they view him as a butcher (going back to Lebanon).

It doesn't matter how correctly Sharon does things now; I just don't see any willingness by either side to deal honestly with the opposite leader.
