there are a few megathemes to be gleaned.

Personal Happiness and sense of purpose does not come simply from making a lot of money or being well known and professionally successful. In fact those, that feel that this is the goal of their lives can find themselves very lonely and scared if they achieve those things and find out they still feel isolated or unhappy.

Also, K's saga highlights the dangerous of clinical depression. Substance abuse, especially his alcohol and heroin use can put one on an emotional rollercoaster and the downs on that ride are pretty damned nasty.

and obviously can be distructive. Maybe we can use his experience to reach out to someone who we know in our lives who's having problems. And maybe that opportunity to help is not there at the moment but will show up in 3 or 6 months.
